Dental Bridges

What is a dental bridge?

Sometimes called a tooth bridge, a dental bridge is a method of filling in the gap created by tooth loss. Generally, dental bridges consist of a pontic (false tooth) that is held in place by abutment teeth crowns on either side of the space.

While dental professionals create pontics out of a variety of materials, Drs. Joung and Minkyung Lee choose ceramics because they are aesthetically pleasing and blend in with natural teeth.

Are dental bridges right for me?

Losing a tooth is life-changing—and not always in a positive way. A dental bridge is an affordable tooth replacement option that can improve quality of life by:

  • Restoring the ability to smile, speak, and eat
  • Maintaining the facial shape
  • Readjusting the bite
  • Stabilizing maintaining teeth

Treatment Expectations

For new patients, we strongly suggest filling out new patient forms and submitting insurance information for a more efficient first visit.

How long do dental bridges take? Typically, we spread dental bridge installation over two appointments. The first appointment is for preparation, while the second is for installation.

We’ve outlined what to expect before, during, and after each teeth bridge procedure:

Before

First, our dental team will inspect your teeth and gums. If they deem a dental bridge as the most suitable treatment option, they will need to prepare your smile. For those that need it, preliminary procedures might consist of a dental extraction. Also, our dentists need to lightly shave down the enamel on either abutment teeth to make room for the new dental crowns. Then, they will take impressions and send these to our dental laboratory for fabrication. In the meantime, our dentists will fit your smile with a temporary teeth bridge.

During

When the dental bridge returns from the laboratory, a Local Dental team member calls the patient for a final fitting. If the dental bridge looks seamless and fits perfectly, our dentist will permanently adhere the bridge to the teeth.

After

Living with a dental bridge is like having natural teeth and requires proper oral hygiene and care. How long do dental bridges last? Dental bridges can last 5 to 15 years (with good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups). Eventually, dental bridges might need repair or replacement. However, they are generally durable.
